The University of Guelph wanted to modernize the exterior of South Residence while maintaining a cohesive look across the building. Because the work was completed in phases over multiple summers, the exterior solution also needed to provide consistency from one construction phase to the next.
The project called for an architectural finish that could give the residence a refreshed, contemporary appearance while standing up to the demands of a busy university environment.
Vicwest AD Series panels in bright white, charcoal, and dark cedar were used to create a clean, modern exterior aesthetic across the residence’s wing.
The combination of panel profiles and colours added visual definition and interest to the building while creating a cohesive appearance across the phased renovations. Using the same exterior system throughout the six-year project helped ensure continuity as each wing was completed.
By balancing architectural design with the practical demands of a large institutional building, the updated façade gives the University of Guelph’s South Residence a refreshed presence on campus while supporting the long-term performance needs of the building.
South Residence serves University of Guelph students, providing a place to live, study and connect as part of the university campus community. The revitalized residence also contributes to the overall appearance and experience of the university campus for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
